If You Can’t Imagine Anything More Terrifying Than World War 1, Conscript Is The Game For You

Conscript is intriguing. It’s an old-school-looking survival horror game set in World War 1 where the horror comes from its setting and is due to be released tomorrow.

In Conscript, players will take on the role of a lone soldier stuck in the trenches of Verdun, having to move between blockhouses and safe zones to find their brother.

While on this quest or adventure, players must stab, shoot, and sneak around because, much like your brother, resources are MIA.

Conscript is a game very clearly inspired by the classics, and to that end, players can expect plenty of puzzle-solving, notetaking, and backtracking.

Where Conscript sets itself apart from the crowd is in its approach to horror. Instead of relying on monsters, the supernatural, hillbillies, or jump scares, the real horror in Conscript comes from the general air of despair that war ushers in with it.

That war theme also carries throughout the mechanics, and players won’t just be able to sneak their way past every fight—this is war, after all, which means combat is part and parcel with the experience, much the same as collecting cigarettes to trade for weapon upgrades.

Conscript will be released on Steam tomorrow, but if you want to try the game now, you can follow the link here to its official demo.
