Microsoft Patents A New Way To Display Encrypted Documents

Do you know those days when you want to work on your encrypted documents with the peace of mind and security that no other eyeballs are seeing it? In that case, you’re going to love this new system that Microsoft has just patented.

The system in question will allow documents to be truly fully encrypted and completely illegible apart from the section you’re directly looking at on the display.

To break it down, what Microsoft is proposing is a way to take documents you’re working on, and by using a webcam that can track the movement of your eyes, alongside some AI to determine precisely where your focus is, the system will then use that information to generate an alpha-blending mask.

What exactly is an alpha-blending mask? Think of it as a small tear in the encrypted document that lets you see the original material underneath. The tear will seamlessly follow as users’ eyes move around the document.

This means that you’ll be able to read the document just fine when you look at it, but if someone else is looking over your screen, they will have a hard time. To make this idea work with as little latency between the eye tracking and mask movement as possible, Microsoft plans to use an algorithm based on statistical methods.
