Escape From Tarkov Puts A Bounty On Cheaters Heads

You have to love a good, feel-good story about cheaters getting their own back, and that’s hopefully what this story will go on to become. I don’t need to tell anyone who plays Escape From Tarkov that the game has suffered under the cruel reign of cheaters since day one.

Battlestate Games, the developers, have been pretty vocal about condemning cheaters, even going as far as to call them the scum of the Earth; however, much like your neighbour’s yappy dog, they all bark and very little bite. Until now. Hopefully.

The latest patch for Escape From Tarkov introduced a new anti-cheat system. This system basically puts a big red target on cheaters’ heads by offering other players compensation for reporting players who violated game rules.

According to the patch notes:

Players will receive in-game currency compensation after the report that led to the blocking of the violator.

Compensation comes with an in-game message informing of a successful report. Compensation for several successful reports will be combined.

Now, this explanation is light on any significant details. We don’t know how much a successful retort will net players, how reports from multiple people about the same cheater will be handled, or if there is any threshold that has to be met before a payout occurs, but hopefully, more details will get shared about this soon.

The patch also enabled offline play for Escape From Tarkov’s much-loved (we kid) PVE mode. But now I want to hear from you. Is a bounty system the right approach to dealing with cheaters? Let me know in the comments.
