Many things in life are better enjoyed with friends – except for co-op games; somehow, those are always just a stark reminder of the burdens you surround yourself with. And if you’re reading this thinking that your gaming group doesn’t have a burden, then you’re the burden in the group. Sorry, not sorry.
The latest entry into the friendship-ruining genre of co-op games is a brutally punishing multiplayer platformer called Chained Together. It will see you and your friends chained together at the hip. Literally.
The game is multiplayer for up to four players, and it it, players are thrown into the depths of hell, where the only way out is up. Players will need to work together to climb a massive tower of moving platforms, narrow ledges, spinning traps, and other hazards to escape.
And if that didn’t sound challenging enough, because you’re all chained together, if one of you goes down, you’re all going down. Which is where the burdens and friendship ending come into play.
Now, I’ll be honest with you—this is not a game I’m going to rush to play with my friends because we already only like each other the bare minimum when playing games, and having one of them be responsible for undoing many hours of trial, error, and tower climbing doesn’t sound like a good time.
However, there are people out there with stronger bonds with their gaming buddies than I have, and in that case, Chained Together looks fun.
There are also three different modes: beginner mode, which will let you resume at the highest point you previously reached; normal mode, which will have you start over from the beginning if you fail; and lava mode, which will see the level steadily being consumed by lava. Because who read this description and thought to themselves, if only it was even harder?
The game is currently available on Steam, where it has a Very Positive review and retails for only R52. It is also fast climbing the popularity ladder, and just this morning, it peaked at about 94,000 concurrent players.
Will you be trying out Chained Together for yourself? Let me know in the comments.
