Almost a year ago, the ratings board of South Africa (yup, our very own, much beloved one) basically leaked that the Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 HD Remaster collection existed for PC, despite the fact that Bandai Namco had only announced it for the Nintendo Switch.
However, months have passed since that initial leak, and it has started to look more and more like your typical fake news. Until now, when, to the surprise of everyone, Baten Kaitos 1 & 2 Remaster both just dropped on Steam with little to no fanfare.
In fact, the launch has been so discreet that it’s not even featured on Steam’s homepage. Yet somehow, the cheaply made, overly sexualised Escape from the Room of the Serving Doll is, and head me well, search for that game at your own risk and preferably not from your work PC.
Fanfare or not, though, it’s only a good thing that the classic Baten Kaitos games are now available on PC, allowing more players to experience two of the best titles in the franchise in all their restored glory.
The Baten Kaitos games were/are developed with highly detailed pre-rendered environments instead of entirely relying on real-time 3D, giving the games a look and feel that many games struggle to achieve, and it goes beyond just the nostalgia factor.
In addition, Baten Kaitos 2 comes with something many older titles just didn’t—full voice-acted characters. Now, I want to know if you are excited about this drop. Let me know in the comments.
