Today is a good day to be Arielle. By that, I mean it’s a good day to be a Life is Strange fan. It’s even a better day to be a fan if you have some cool, disposable cash to throw at it.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure is a new upcoming game in the award-winning franchise, and most exciting of all, it’s also a direct sequel to the first game in the series.
The upcoming title will once again follow Max Caulfield as she gains the ability to walk between parallel universes to solve the mystery of yet another dead best friend. The lesson here is that Max really needs to learn to pick friends with a higher survival rate, but I digress.
The real story is that the game will have two special editions, a Deluxe Edition and an Ultimate Edition, on launch.
A quick scan of Steam while adding the game to my wishlist shows that the regular edition of Life is Strange: Double Exposure will set players back R849, while the Deluxe goes for R999, and the Ultimate packs a hefty R1,329 pricetag.
Now, gamers are no strangers to parting with large sums of cash in order to play their favourite titles on launch. However, the issue gamers have with this setup is that the Ultimate edition will offer early access to the game’s first episodes for an entire two weeks before release.
Again, accessing your new game a few days early isn’t a new concept. But these benefits are usually reserved for multiplayer games, not single-player story-driven experiences, and they usually only give players a couple of days early access—not two solid weeks.
Gamers have, and rightfully so, pointed out that with a game like Life is Strange: Double Exposure, the story, twists, and discoveries are the entire point of the game. By the time the two-week period is over, the internet will have already spoiled everything by doing what it does best.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure will be heading our way on the 29th of October unless, of course, you throw that extra R480 at it, in which case it releases for you on the 15th of October.
But now I want to know from you, are you team outrage or team big spender? Let me know in the comments.
