It’s that wonderous time of the year when all the gaming-related events happen back to back, and gamers finally get some closure on Beyond Good and Evil 2—just kidding, there will be no closure on that front. However, what we do get is updates, trailers, and release windows for other games, like the much-delayed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake.
Last week, Ubisoft softly added Ubisoft Toronto to the long list of studios working on getting Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake across that finish line. Now, during a live stream, Ubisoft has given gamers a timeframe for the game’s release: 2026.
On the one hand, three years to develop an entire remake of such a beloved title isn’t long to wait at all. On the other hand, the development has already been ongoing for so long that if it were a kid, it would already be in the first grade.

However, saying that also comes with a disclaimer of its own because, for reasons that have never been publically explained, the game’s development was completely rebooted in 2023, which may have reset the countdown rather drastically.
One thing seems shockingly clear, though: after years of development, Ubisoft doesn’t appear to have much to show for its efforts. After all this time, the big release window reveal consisted just of a window, a candle, and 2026. That’s it.
In actual fact, this reveal not only didn’t add anything new for gamers to get excited about, but it also removed something: as of now, the Remake part of the game’s title has been completely dropped, and it’s now being referred to simply as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time—even on the official website.
As of covering this news, no reason for dropping Remake from the game’s title has been given. However, it makes me wonder just how many significant changes the game will have to show for all its development when it’s eventually done and dusted.
But what do you make of all this? Let me know in the comments.
