Yesterday, I covered the news that the long-awaited prequel to Doom Eternal, Doom: The Dark Ages, had been announced. While that’s exciting in its own right, two things really took it up a level.
First, this time around, Doom Guy will be equipped with his very own shield/chainsaw combo. To make it even better, the shield can be thrown and bounced between enemies like Captain America’s very own shield.
Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, there will be dragons. Yes, dragons and Doom Guy is even shown riding one. Now, today, I come to you again with exciting news: The Doom community has managed to add a functional Shield Saw to the original version of Doom in under 24 hours.
And yes, I hear you. It’s no dragon, but as a second-best thing, modder Craneo has knocked this one out of the park.
aight I kinda ended up trying to make actual decorate for it… it works, will upload in a bit. pic.twitter.com/OORmCydVL0

To explain what the mod does, it upgrades the iconic Doom chainsaw into the new and improved Shield Saw. Not only in appearance, although who are we even kidding? The thing looks so cool, but the Shield Saw will also protect players from incoming damage, and it can even be thrown around, just like Doom: The Dark Ages teased.
As of writing this, modder Craneo hasn’t indicated if they’re going to keep working on the mod. However, they have hinted at creating the other iconic thing from Doom: The Dark Ages, and again, it’s not a dragon, but what it is is the Skul-Gun.
But for now, eager players can grab the Doom Shield Saw mod by following the link here. And if you want to thank me for this find, I’ll take it, but the credit actually goes to good old Cody. You know how it is: the man only has one stroke of genius in him a year, so let’s maybe just give him this one. Okay?
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a Doom Guy to shield and hell-spawn to chainsaw down…
