God of War Ragnarök PC Players Will Need A PSN Account… Yes, Really

During the latest PlayStation State of Play event, Sony made many PC gamer’s dreams come true by revealing that God of War Ragnarök would finally be coming to PC on September 19th.

PC gamers can expect quality-of-life improvements, like unlocked framerates, upscaling, super ultra-widescreen support, the Valhalla DLC, and the New Game+ mode added post-launch.

However, now that all the awesomeness dust has settled, Sony is coming in just as strong with their dream-crushing ways by announcing that a PlayStation Network Account will be required to play the game on PC—much like they tried to do with Helldivers 2.

Now, there is a chance you’re reading this wondering why it’s a big deal and worthy of covering. That all comes down to the 177 countries and territories worldwide where the PlayStation Network can’t be accessed, meaning many won’t be able to play the much-anticipated PC version when it releases.

This mass delisting happened with Helldivers 2 before Sony backed down on the requirement and then again with Ghost of Tsushima. However, at least with Ghost of Tsushima, PSN sign-in was optional if players only wanted to access the single-player mode.

And yet, God of War Ragnarök, a game with only a single-player mode and no multiplayer, will require a PSN sign-in. The mind boggles.
