Everything Announced at This Years PlayStation State of Play

If staying up until midnight to catch PlayStation’s State of Play was a bit of a stretch for you, don’t stress. We’ve got your back.

Here’s everything that PlayStation announced in the wee hours of the morning during their event.

We’ll kick things off with a bit of VR action for those who love immersing themselves in the fantasy realms that these studios so intricately create:

Skydance’s Behemoth:

Set in “the Forsaken Lands”, this new title from the developers behind The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners will literally put players in the boots of a diseased wanderer whose poisoned blood craves death.

Tackle the frozen wastelands of a once prosperous world, the deadly warriors that inhabit it and towering Behemoths that always seem to arrive at just the wrong moment.

The game is set to launch on PSVR2, Meta Quest and Steam VR in October this year.

Watch the age-restricted trailer here.

Alien: Rogue Incursion:

Alien: Rogue Incursion is the latest VR title from the Alien franchise. While the trailer is more of a teaser than anything else, it has been revealed that the story for this game will be completely new.

Players will have to face Xenomorphs in an overrun facility on the planet Purdan in this all-new single-player action horror coming to PSVR2 sometime during the Christmas season this year.

Sitting back into our couches without the VR headset, we have the rest of the games announced. Yesterday, I said I was most excited to check out Concord and Fairgame$, the latter of which didn’t even bother to show face, but after it all, I have to admit that Ballad of Antara and Where Winds Meet are my favourites from the show.

Concord:

Before this morning, all we knew about Concord was that someone had left their freshly prepared burger on their ship. Now we know that Concord will be the next 5v5 “hero” shooter to enter the live service scene.

What most people are calling a Guardians of the Galaxy skin for Overwatch, the latest trailer showed off a little bit of the gameplay we can expect from the game, which looks a lot closer to the multiplayer experience from Destiny 2 or even Tribes.

The game is set to launch on the 23rd of August and will feature 16 playable characters, but a beta test will launch in July with just 5 of them.

Infinity Nikki:

An open-world RPG where you play as a stylist who also fights things? While I’m not yet sure about the storyline of Infinity Nikki, this new colourful RPG from Infold Games looks like an exciting 3D platformer-type game that focuses on styling your character while travelling the world of Miraland.

The latest trailer teases a boss fight, 389 different photos taken and that traditional platforming gameplay we’re used to from games like Mario. What makes this project a little more exciting is that former Zelda director Kentaro Tominaga is also involved.

Where Winds Meet:

Where Winds Meet puts players in the middle of a battle between rival dynasties during the Ten Kingdoms Era. The gameplay and story are heavily influenced by the Chinese Wuxia fighting style, which many of us will know as martial artists pulling off unrealistic moves, like kicking back 13 poles of bamboo as they fly towards you at 200 km/h.

It is said that the choices you make as the main protagonist will shape the battle and its outcome and even affect the different styles of the NPCs.

There was no release date announced from the trailer, but the one-on-one battles are exciting enough for me to keep hitting refresh on their webpage.

Ballad of Antara:

What looks like the love child of Elden Ring and Final Fantasy, Ballad of Antara, will be a free-to-play RPG that the development team hopes will be of the “highest fidelity.”

The game will boast a vast world with two sides: the usual side where common people reside and an unseen version of the same world where things aren’t quite what they seem. Slowly, the essence of the normal world is being sucked into this “Para” world, and it’s up to the player to find out what’s going on.

You will be able to play as different emissaries with different skill sets, each of which can be found within the world, and the game will allow co-op play with up to three players.

The game is planned for launch sometime in 2025.

Dynasty Warriors Origins:

The next iteration in the hack-and-slash franchise, Dynasty Warriors, will be released sometime in 2025 and promises more action than we’ve ever had on a Warriors battlefield.

Players will take control of a “Nameless Hero” who will shift the tide of battle.

Tomokijo Sho, the game producer, says that the developers are using the power of the PlayStation 5 to its full potential, allowing them to create armies that will completely fill the screen. Because who doesn’t need more bodies to slash through?

Monster Hunter Wilds:

The ever-loved Monster Hunter series will get its next monster-hunting title in 2025. This was the first official trailer released for Monster Hunter WIlds, and it gave us a view of the monster we’ll face and the worlds we’ll need to tackle.

Marvel Rivals:

Another hero shooter made the cut during the State of Play, this time featuring actual heroes. Marvel Rivals takes the angle back a little, giving us a third-person view of all the action.

No release date has been given yet, but a test period will be held this July this year.

Path of Exile 2:

Path of Exile 2 has been showing off content for months now, getting players to board the hype train left, right and centre. They announced during the State of Play that the game would also be playable on consoles, you know, for those who don’t play on PCs. #PCMasterRace

The game will be hitting early access later on in the year, and the console version of the game will feature couch co-op.

You can check out the age-restricted trailer here.

Astro Bot:

To top off the new titles released, Team Asobi confirmed the rumours by announcing they were working on a completely new Astro Bot game. PlayStation’s little mascot will now feature in its very own adventure that promises to be its “most ambitious yet.”

The game will hit the PlayStation Store on the 6th of September this year, too, so we don’t need to wait very long to take the little bot out for a run.

We were also privileged enough to see a few new remakes and a godly PC port during the event.

God of War Ragnarok:

Kratos once again bears his six-pack as the announcement for the PC port of the award-winning game God of War Ragnarok nabbed about a minute of the event.

The PC port will come with the Valhalla DLC “out-of-the-box”, and PC-centric features like ultra-wide monitor support, higher frame rates, and supersampling from both DLSS and FSR.

Gamers can take on the mythical journey with Kratos from the 19th of September this year.

You can watch the age-restricted trailer here.

Until Dawn:

Until Dawn initially hit the horror market back in 2015. Now, it’s getting even scarier as Supermassive shows off the Unreal Engine 5 update for the game.

The “next-gen” trailer features just how gruesome a few of the traps and events can be when you get to see them powered by all the mighty hardware we have sitting under our TV’s these days.

The game should launch sometime in the spring months for us down in SA, and you can view all the bloody goodness from the age-restricted trailer here.

Silent Hill 2 Remake:

To wrap it all up, the Silent Hill 2 remake finally has a release date. The State of Play trailer featured more in-game combat and gave us a look at Abstract Daddy, one of the game’s final enemies.

Horror fans had better get their diaper stash all stocked up because this game looks killer.

The remake will launch on both PC and PS5 later this year on the 8th of October.
