Discord Is Going Back To Its Gaming Focused Roots

Discord just released a brand new post on its official blog, in which its CEO, Jason Citron, revealed a bold new vision for the future of Discord that is very similar to the original vision.

Over the last few years, Discord has been trying to broaden its horizons and become a sort of jack of all trades, catering to meetings, classes, and the like.

However, the new vision for the platform means going back to where it all began: focusing on Discord as a platform for gamers to hang out together while playing games.

When we think about what the next ten years will be like and what people want from the internet, it keeps coming back to gaming. After taking stock of the world now that the pandemic is largely behind us, we’ve recognized the need to narrow our focus from broadly being a community-centric chat app. – Jason Citron

This refocus makes sense, especially when you consider that 90% of Discord’s monthly users use it while playing games.

We don’t know yet what this refocusing on gaming means for Discord in general. However, we have seen a more significant push to get Dicord on more devices, like Xbox and PlayStation 5.

But now I want to know what game-focused features you would love to see the platform embrace. Let me know in the comments.
