We’re all giant LEGO nerds up at the NAG office, so when LEGO announces something new, you’d best believe we’ve already been drooling over it for hours before realising we should probably tell all of you about it.
What makes this latest set even more exciting is that it’s themed after one of our favourite franchises, and it’s massive.
Three whole feet of Barad-dûr.

For those of you who aren’t au fait with the names of everything in Lord of the Rings, Barad-dûr is the home of the almighty Sauron and hosts the tower upon which his evil eye sits.
The set comes with a variety of hidden Easter eggs and moving parts, including a light brick to give Sauron’s eye that flaming, evil glow we’re all so aware of, a mechanically opened front gate, a dark throne hiding a secret room that holds one of the Palantir, a feasting room for the orcs to devour their enemies’ cooked limbs, a smithy, a lava pit, Frodo’s mithril coat, a hidden map, and even a tiny spider meant to represent Shelob.
In addition to all these goodies, the set comes with ten mini-figures, including a hunched-over Gollum, two tiny-legged Hobbits, Sam and Frodo, a troupe of Orcs, the Mouth of Sauron, and the main man himself.

LEGO even says that the set is completely modular, and if 83cm is not tall enough for you, you can keep adding more and more sets together to elevate Sauron’s Eye to the height you think it truly deserves.
The set will launch on the LEGO website on the 4th of June and will cost $459.99, which is around R8500.
