For those who don’t know, Rocksmith is Ubisoft’s music learning service. Where other music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band gained popularity for their ability to make players feel like they were part of a band by giving them some classical rhythm mechanics on plastic instruments, Rocksmith took a far different approach.
What started as a rhythm game that allowed players to use actual instalments instead of plastic controllers soon pivoted into a service-based experience focused on gaming guitar and piano in one of the best at-home music education programs.
The game is available for iOS, Android, and PC via Ubisoft Connect. However, starting on June 6, players on PlayStation platforms and PC gamers who primarily use Steam will be able to experience Rocksmith+.
For those wanting to try learning an instrument for themselves, Rocksmith+ is a great way to learn fundamental skills in a fun and digestible way. The game uses original recordings from a licensed library that has new songs added to it monthly.

The other draw to Rocksmith+ is that it doesn’t require players to have any special hardware to use it. Instead, all players need to do is download the Rocksmith Tuner app to use in conjunction with the Rocksmith+ software.
Rocksmith Tuner will then use the player’s smart device as a mic for guitar or piano playing, using the sound to trigger a variety of interactions and reactions in the game.
Of course, those wanting a more traditional wired connection can buy the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable and plug it into either an electric guitar or bass, and those wanting to use a MIDI interface for piano are welcome to do so.
Rocksmith+ also has a free edition that allows players to try out a limited set of songs, lessons, and features.
But now I want to know if you’re as excited about the release of Rocksmith+ as I am. Let me know in the comments, and also tell me what instrument you’re most looking forward to learning.
