Rotwood, Klei’s Co-Op Brawler Packs A Punch In Early Access

If you enjoy games that not only don’t hold your hand but also slap it away if you so much as ask for the smallest of hints, then Klei’s new co-op brawler is the game for you.

Instead of forcing players through countless tutorials and how-tos, Rotwood allows players to forgo any and all help and dive into the thick of things, swinging hammers like you’re some reincarnated version of Thor.

The game was released into early access on Steam today, and already, it packs one hell of a punch. It has a very roguelite structure, and players will be hopping between biomes, bashing anyone who looks at them funny before moving on again.

After clearing each area, players might be rewarded with a new power to add to their arsenal. To complete an area and unlock the next one, players will need to fully traverse it in a single life, defeating both a mini-boss and a main boss, equipped with only one health potion for aid.

As of writing, Rotwood’s early access build includes four biomes, complete with mini-bosses and actual big bads, as well as four weapon classes. Crossing Klei, mastering the current content should take players anywhere from 10 to 25 hours.

The early access period is planned to last one to two years, and as with other early access titles, the price of the game will increase (it’s currently R98) as more content is added.
