After Almost A Decade Of Waiting, REDkit Modding Tools Are Coming To The Witcher 3

After almost an entire decade of patiently waiting, REDkit modding tools have finally made their way to The Witcher 3. For those who need a refresher:

In 2015, CD Projekt Red released MODKit for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. This tool would enable the Witcher community to mod several aspects of the game.

However, unlike the name suggests, MODKit wasn’t really a complete mod tool; instead of allowing players to add things to the game, it just allowed them to tweak what was already there—unlike the now-released REDkit.

REDkit is a super powerful tool that first appeared for The Witcher 2, but at the time, CD Projekt Red told fans of the tool not to expect to see it in The Witcher 3. However, flash almost a decade into the future, and CD Projekt Red has now opened signups for a Witcher 3 REDkit playtest on Steam.

The Witcher 3 REDkit is a comprehensive modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt we’re currently developing. It is based on the same set of tools that were used by our developers to create the game and should allow for nearly limitless freedom in modding it. REDkit will be available free of charge for all owners of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC.

Access to the test will be rolled out in batches, and to be considered, players must own The Witcher 3 and have the game installed to use the tools.

It’s also worth noting that the tool is still in beta, and while CD Projekt Red hopes the experience will be great, there could still be issues. The REDkit test will only be available via Steam, but it will work with any PC version of the game regardless of where it was purchased.

If you want to throw your name into the hat for the playtest, all you need to do is head over to Steam by following the link here and then click on the request access button. It’s that easy.
