After last year’s massive success of the Dead Space remake, fans have been eagerly knocking on EA’s door, not so much asking for but demanding that they start working on a remake of Dead Space 2.
However, the likelihood of that actually materialising has been looking less and less likely, especially after EA announced this week that the Dead Space remake’s leads are now working on the Battlefield series.
EA’s other big focus is the Iron Man game, which leaves the status of the Dead Space 2 remake up in the air – if it was ever going to happen at all.
Further fire was added to the cancellation rumours when Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb went on X to say that while EA had planned a Dead Space 2 remake, the project was ultimately cancelled due to the poor sales of the first.

This claim caused EA to make a statement to IGN that read:
“We don’t normally comment on rumours, but there is no validity to this story.”
While that’s great, they didn’t elaborate further, so it could be that either a Dead Space 2 remake was never planned to begin with or that its cancellation had nothing to do with low sales numbers—we just don’t have enough information to know for sure what part of the statement EA is denying.
It’s also worth noting that Jeff Grubb is standing firm on his original statement and responded to EA by X’ing:
“Dead Space 2 was definitely being planned. It had a code name. And they aren’t making it now.”
I give you my permission to believe EA if you want, but whenever a company says "that isn't true" but they don't specify which part of the story they are talking about, well … yeah.

Do you think we’ll live to see a Dead Space 2 remake, or is it just a dream that is not worth holding onto? Let us know in the comments.
