Joaquin Phoenix’s epic portrayal of The Joker in Todd Philips’ film in 2019 gave viewers a peek into what the character could really be like if they came from a more realistic world, like ours, rather than the fictional, super world of DC.
The award-winning film ends with Phoenix in a mental asylum, laughing at a joke his therapist just wouldn’t get.
Almost five years later, we’ve got the trailer for the next part of this thrilling performance.
Thankfully, unlike most other movie trailers, the trailer does not give away much of the plot. What we discover is that this part of the story revolves around the beginnings of The Joker and Harley Quinn’s relationship.
The movie is titled Joker: Folie à Deux and will again feature Phoenix in the lead male role. The ever-popular Lady Gaga will play Harley, usually portrayed as a therapist, who instead is another patient in the same asylum.
Adding to the mental chaos of it all, Folie à Deux is a mental illness in which two separate people transmit delusional beliefs between each other.
There are fears that this second film will be a musical thanks to “we use music to make us whole” briefly mentioned in the trailer, all the theatrical scenes shown off, and from Gaga’s previous movie, A Star is Born. However, Phillip’s has mentioned that while music will play a big part in the film it is not a full musical.
The film will be released in theatres on October 4th later this year, which gives us all more than enough time to prepare our outfits and masks.
