It wasn’t too long ago that the threat of a beloved video game being adapted to the big screen was enough to put fear in the hearts of gamers worldwide. Still, times have changed, and the curse has finally been broken.
Now, it’s also worth noting that the latest adaptations have been so good because they’ve taken games that are perfect for the big screen. However, the latest on the chopping block, Dredge, is not one of those games.
Instead of being a heavy story-driven game with engaging character narratives and developments, Dredge is a fishing-horror game all about vibes, meaning it will be a hit or miss depending on how it’s translated.
To make this adaptation happen, Dredge developer Black Salt Games has partnered with production company Story Kitchen, which has a reputation for turning story-light games into big-screen movies.
One of Story Kitchen’s co-finders was also the co-producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog film. Over the last few years, Story Kitchen has also signed deals to adapt other games like Sifu, Vampire Survivors, and Slime Rancher.
We are excited to partner with such an experienced studio team to bring the world we created to live action and ignite the imagination of audiences across the globe. – Black Salt Games
The project is still in its very early stages, so you have enough time to prepare those ticket booking hands.
But now I want to know if you think Dredge has what it takes to be a great movie. Let me know in the comments.
