If you’re wondering how I spent my day off yesterday, I was playing Stardew Valley’s 1.6 updates, and I wasn’t alone; in fact, I was part of a new record that saw Stardew Valley break its concurrent player count on Steam when a massive 146,159 players flocked to the game, making it the seventh most-played game, right between Helldivers 2 and GTA 5.
The previous record for Stardew Valley was set back in 2021 with 94,879 players. But that said, the much-anticipated 1.6 update for the game is now live, and it’s been a hit, which is even more impressive when you remember that 1. this update was free and 2. Stardew Valley is already almost nine years old.

The update has really refreshed the game with plenty of new, more minor additions like cats wearing hats and drinkable mayonnaise, but it also has plenty of significant additions as well, like a brand new farm type, the Meadowlands.
On top of this, 1.6 also introduced some updates to multiplayer, and you can now experience one of the best farming games ever made with up to eight of your friends on Steam.
But now I want to know if you have been dusting off your old saved files and heading back to Pelican Town? Let me know in the comments.
