Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection Is A Mess And Used A Modder’s Work Even After Promising Not Too

Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection has decided to embrace the Darkside by being a bit of a hot mess – to put it lightly. One of the most significant issues comes from when the announcement trailer showcased a mod set to be incorporated into the collection without the permission or approval of the modder who created it.

This caused some major backlash, but Aspyr, the studio behind the remaster, swore high and low that this was a once-off oopsie with the trailer and the actual game wouldn’t be using anyone else’s code or content without permission – but it turns out that was far from the truth.

When the game was released, both the PC and PlayStation versions included the mod that restored Asajj Ventress as a playable character. For those who don’t know, Asajj Ventress was a character exclusive to the Xbox version of Battlefront 2 back in 2005.

However, modder iamashaymin managed to reskin Aayla Secura to look like Asajj Ventress and snuck her into the game’s PC version. So the core problem was that the trailer for Battlefront Classic Collection depicts iamashaymin’s mod by showcasing Ventress using Secura’s animations and lightsabers.

And if you thought that this little oopsie wouldn’t bug the modder behind the work, you’d be wrong. In an interview with IGN, modder iamashaymin said:

This release has been a total mess. The fact they had to release patches both before and immediately after releasing two decade old games really says it all.

There’s loads of these weird issues that are just screaming rushed development. Some textures in the game are even muddled with those from Battlefront 1, like Kashyyyk’s water is blue like in Battlefront 1 and not gray like in Battlefront 2 and the DLC maps themselves use completely the wrong textures in a lot of places. – iamashaymin

The modding community is also feeling less optimistic about the collection now, after everything that has gone down with the release.

We were hoping for improvements we could take advantage of to make better and of course would be ready to port and redevelop our modded content to work with the new games.

A lot of players in general were hoping for general bug fixes anyway, such as a very famous issue where on Death Star, one of the team’s reinforcements ticket count would deplete at twice the rate and voicelines that wouldn’t ever play due to a simple typo.

The remaster is a very broken game, with a lot of issues we have fixed in the past. – iamashaymin
