The 23-year-old classic, RuneScape, is still vastly played to this day, with an average daily player count of around 350,000.
Andrew Gower, the designer behind this MMO Masterpiece, just revealed that for the past ten years, he’s been working on another MMO.
Brighter Shores definitely has some RuneScape vibes, and you can tell the RuneScape community has picked up on this by the number of RuneScape 4-type comments on the Steam Community hub and on Gower’s social media posts.
Gower says that even though the game is an MMORPG, it will still be a lot of fun to play solo, which he has been doing during some alpha testing. On that note, there will be some closed beta testing rounds as well, which Gower will reveal more details about via his X account when the time is right. If you’d like to be a part of that, be sure to follow him.
The game itself is a grid-based top-down RPG, where players join the Hopetown Guard in search of adventure. There are three base classes to choose from, from a Cryoknight to a Hammermage, and an even wider variety of professions to choose from, like fishing, mining, stonemasonry and even palaeontology.
Gower also promises that even though the game is grid-based, the combat is not tick-based, making it more “fluid and responsive”.
Currently, the game is slated for release in Q3 of this year, so it will be sometime around August of this year. You can wishlist the game over on Steam so that you’re notified as soon as it’s available.
