To the unknowing individual, yesterday was just Sunday. To those who have calendars, it was the 10th of March, but to the true gamer, it was MAR10 Day!
Alongside all the incredible deals, events and savings, some of which are still ongoing, we also got news from Nintendo that they would be releasing a second Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2026.
Again partnering with Illumination Studios, the film is set to take place in the Mario universe. Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto return as producers, while Aaron Horvath and Micheal Jelenic are back as directors.
What’s interesting about all the announcements, though, is that the movie is never mentioned as a sequel to the first billion-dollar movie that was released last year. Words like “broadening Mario’s world” and “based on the world of Super Mario Bros.” could imply that we may even get a film from one of the other characters’ perspectives.
Either way, Meledandri says Illumination Studios is starting up their animation tasks now, so we should start seeing a few clips here and there as we get closer to the 2026 3rd of April planned air date.
Near the end of the movie announcement video, Nintendo also dropped a few more dates for some upcoming Mario games that are heading to Switch.
On the 23rd of May, gamers can play the remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, originally a Gamecube game. A month later, on the 27th of June, the remastered version of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon will also be available on the Switch, renamed to Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD. For the more classic gamer, Dr. Mario, Mario Golf and Mario Tennis will make their way onto the Nintendo Switch Online Game Boy Collection on the 12th of March.
Don’t forget to check out the Nintendo e-shop for more Mario Day deals that are running until the 17th of March. And if you haven’t yet grabbed it, you can still grab the 14-day free trial to Nintendo Switch Online, whether you’re new to the scene or a Game Boy classic.
