In case you missed the memo, Steam is kinda, sorta, really popular. We’re not making that up either; we have the numbers to back it up.
According to SteamDB, the go-to tool for tracking the number of users on Steam at any moment, everyone’s favourite Half-Life 2 patch tool has just broken another record.
So, according to SteamDB, the gaming storefronts’ previous record for concurrent users online at any one time was sitting at 33.6 million, a number that was just raised to a whopping 34.6 million on the 3rd of March.
Not only was that a vast number of users to have online at once, but alongside this, Steam came very close to breaking its record for the highest number of gamers playing games at once.
On the 3rd of March, Steam logged an in-game player count of 11,146,564, which sits just below its previous all-time high of 11,582,167 – set in January of this year.
It’s wild to think how far Steam has come from its early days as little more than an easy way to patch your favourite PC game.
