For the first time in about a year, you’re about to read a news piece about Embracer that doesn’t involve the shutdown of a major development studio or the cancellation of a hugely anticipated game.
Looking to escape the Force Grip that the Embracer Group has had on all the studios it purchased during last year’s spending spree is Saber Interactive, the studio behind the latest KOTOR remake, and Space Marine 2.
According to a post from Bloomberg, a group of “private investors” want to privatise Saber Interactive with a deal of around $500 million. This will separate the company and its roughly 3,500 employees from Embracer, allowing them to take a breath and actually focus on making that remake instead of worrying about their jobs.
At the time of writing this, Saber Interactive have yet to comment on the deal.

In more good Embracer news, there are rumours that Gearbox may also have a deal in the works that’s close to closure. According to reports from Kotaku, the studio is “closer than ever to being sold out from under what is arguably the most hated company in gaming.”
Originally purchased back in 2021 for an astounding $1.3 billion, the studio behind the acclaimed Borderlands franchise might also be able to take that breath of fresh air.
While not many details have surfaced, it is rumoured that Randy Pitchford, CEO at Gearbox, held a meeting with his staff earlier this week. He explained that more details relating to the company’s future would be revealed in March. Whether Gearbox is being bought out by someone else or has managed to fund itself, we do not yet know, but it does look likely that they will be leaving the Embracer group, too.
My fingers are crossed that all of this goes, mostly, according to plan. I mean, what could be worse than what Embracer has been doing anyway?
