Make Yourself King with an Automatic Grenade Launcher

I’ve often thought about how different things would be if someone, somewhere, had to travel hundreds of years back in time with a piece of current-era tech. Would it speed up how quickly technology advances? Would I suddenly wake up one morning in a glass house powered by a glowing blue tree floating high above the clouds? So many questions just racing through my head, but the most important one of all has always been if it were me travelling back in time, what piece of technology would I take?

Redemption Road Games have obviously had these same questions, and after some thinking, they’ve come up with an answer. They won’t be taking back medicine or a Google server. No. They want to travel back around 600 years in time with the full power of the military. From AK47s to Apache Attack Helicopters and every kind of bullet and explosive in between.

In their latest real-time strategy simulation hybrid, Kingmakers, this is precisely what players will do.

Announced a few days ago, this RTS-action hybrid has everyone sharpening their swords and loading their guns as they watch the ridiculous slaughter of whole medieval armies occur by the hand of a man with a gun.

Slated for a 2024 launch, according to the Steam page, the game will take players back in time in their back-to-the-future powered bakkie equipped to the brim with all sorts of modern-day firepower. You will then change between a top-down RTS-style simulation, controlling armies and building bases, and a third-person shooter, where you lead your armies from the front lines with a massive revolver on your hop and an assault rifle in your arms.

While not much else has been released, the game’s blurb does tease a little bit of the story.

Go back in time to a war-torn medieval era with a vast arsenal of modern weapons, change the course of history, and save the future in this epic action/strategy sandbox. Build your kingdom, grab a gun, and lead an army of thousands into massive, real-time simulated battles — solo or in co-op.

Players will travel back in time to fix the future. As for what broke it, we’ll have to wait to find out. Co-op mode will allow you to play with up to three other friends, although no PvP action has been in the works yet.

The game will initially be released on Steam only for an early access stint, and from the 1.0 release onwards, Redemption Road Games plans for a console launch as well.
