5 Games To Play Instead Of Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora

Anything – Something – Everything – Nothing – A Different Game

Which was what my colleague suggested I write; I’ve had to put some work in.

What was promised to be a deep dive into the fantastical world of James Cameron’s epic movie series, filled with open-world action and adventure, was, at its worst, incredibly boring and, at its best, also boring.

So, to save you from the tedium I put myself through so you don’t have to, I’ve gone ahead and put together a list of five games that I think are not only great games in their own right, but that will also scratch that itch that’s making you look at Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora to begin with.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

A monster slayer for hire on the search for his adopted daughter, who is on the run from the otherworldly Wild Hunt

PlayStation 4/5; PC; Xbox One; Xbox Series X/S; Nintendo Switch

Not only should you play The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in place of Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, but you should play it, period.

If the fantasy elements of Avatar make you consider turning to the dark side, then you’ll feel right at home in The Witcher’s fantasy world filled with creatures and locations that will amaze and terrify you.

In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, players will take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and wield magic while collecting powerful weapons to defeat various monsters.

While not the closest game on this list to Avatar, it’s one you should definitely consider playing if you haven’t already.

Far Cry 6

Fight enemy soldiers and dangerous wildlife using a wide array of weapons and gadgets

PlayStation 4/5; PC; Xbox One; Xbox Series X/S

While you might not think it to look at the game, Far Cry 6 is hands down the closest you’ll get to a game that plays very much like Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, but that’s good at the same time.

Set in Yara, a tropical paradise frozen in time. Players will face the dictator of Yara, Antón Castillo, who intends to restore his nation to its former glory by any means necessary, with his son, Diego, following in his bloody footsteps.

Overall, both games feature a very similar type of villain. As in Avatar, Far Cry 6 is also played from a first-person shooter perspective with an evolving story to keep players hooked.

God Of War: Ragnarok

Set in ancient Scandinavia and features the series protagonist, Kratos, and his now teenage son, Atreus

PlayStation 4/5

While you might not think of God of War: Ragnarök, the sequel to God of War, when looking for a game similar to Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, I would highly recommend it.

One of the biggest draws to the Avatar franchise is the deep and rich backstory that the films dove into, and much like that, God of War Ragnarok has one of the strongest backstories around.

The game focuses on Kratos, the God of War, and his now teenage son, Atreus, who are facing the conflict of the upcoming Ragnarök due to the result of Kratos killing the Norse God, Baldur.

If you’re looking for a game with a strong narrative that will stay with you long after you put the controller down, this is the one you want.

Horizon Forbidden West

A post-apocalyptic version of the Western United States recovering from the aftermath of an extinction event caused by a rogue robot swarm

PlayStation 4/5; PC

If you’re looking for a game that will not only match the beauty of Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora but surpass it, then Horizon Forbidden West is the game you’re looking for.

Explore distant lands, fight bigger and more awe-inspiring machines, and encounter astonishing new tribes as you return to the far-future, post-apocalyptic world of Horizon.

Not only is the game a feast for the eyes, but in terms of world size, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better match for when you want to play Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and also have a good time.

No Man’s Sky

Planets with their own ecosystems with unique forms of flora and fauna and various alien species

PlayStation 4/5; PC; Xbox One; Xbox Series X/S; Nintendo Switch; macOS; iPadOS

Despite having one of the worst game releases until Cyberpunk 2077 came around and said hold my bear, No Man’s Sky has become one of the best open-world planet exploration games around.

No Man’s Sky is a game about exploration and survival in an infinite procedurally generated universe.

If you’re looking for a deep sandbox experience mixed with a seemingly endless amount of exploration, planets to discover and wildlife to fawn over, then No Man’s Sky will more than deliver.

But as always, we want to hear from you. Which games would you recommend with similar aspects to Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora? Let us know in the comments.
