Xbox Addresses Exclusivity and Hardware Rumours

Ok, everyone can calm down now. After the Xbox podcast last night, all the rumours concerning exclusive titles were finally put to rest.

Yes, four titles will be released onto other platforms, but they won’t be big-name games like Starfield or Indiana Jones. Phil Spencer didn’t say which four titles would be going multi-platform. Instead, he wanted to leave it up to the development teams behind these games to make their own announcements. They are, however, games that have been on the Xbox platform for over a year, are community-driven and weren’t necessarily planned to be Xbox exclusives to begin with.

Media suggests Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves as the four titles that will be coming to PlayStation, but until officially announced, it’s probably best that we don’t start another internet war on exclusivity.

Spencer reiterated that Xbox’s first-party exclusivity strategy would remain mostly unchanged. This means all the Xbox fans can finally take a breather.

There was chatter about exclusivity becoming a minor part of the industry, though. Spencer and the team see the value in marketing some of their games on other platforms and the business it could bring, but the ever-worshipped first-party titles will remain untouched for now.

To show even more commitment to the Xbox fanbase, Sarah Bond, president of Xbox, started talking about Xbox’s next generation of hardware.

“…what we’re really focused on there is delivering the largest technical leap you will have ever seen in a hardware generation, which makes it better for players and better for creators and the visions that they’re building.” – Sarah Bond

This statement shows that Xbox is still dedicated to delivering ultra-powerful consoles that will satisfy gamers for generations to come. Putting to bed the rumours that Xbox will be slowing down their console creation in favour of having Game Pass on every screen out there – which was shut down too.

“First, that all of our games will be on the Xbox platform. Second, all of our games will go into Game Pass on day one, and third, we know that Game Pass will only be available on Xbox.” – Matt Booty

Overall, the future of Xbox seems to fit in with the narrative that they’ve been pushing all along. Xbox will still release great consoles. Xbox will still produce great, exclusive, first-party titles, and Game Pass will remain an ever-present force in the Xbox ecosystem.
