Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is finally out and about in the world, and since its debut, we’ve covered everything from reviewing the game to helping players level up faster to diving into the characters themselves and what sets them apart.
However, one thing we haven’t spoken about is how absolutely overpowered your characters could be in the game until Rocksteady found out and patched it. Yesterday, Rocksteady issued a short update on the game’s Discord about a bug that allowed players to level their mastery “beyond our wildest expectations.”
This was all due to the Burn status effect, which applied damage over time and was scaling incorrectly. It turns out that Rockstead initially intended for the Burn to scale somewhat as players rose through Mastery Levels, but “a major unintended bug” meant that Burn’s damage was increasing so much that it “basically meant that if you used a Burn build, every Mastery Level had the same difficulty.”
However, if you think that Rocksteady just decided to fix this issue on a whim, you’d be wrong. According to the developers, they have been toying with the idea of whether they should even fix it because one of their goals when designing the game was for players to continuously find a new meta and then break it by finding a better one.

But in the end, Rocksteady decided that Burn was too powerful to be left unattended. They’ve decided to ensure that Burn will only work as initially intended, which means it’s still a viable build but won’t infinitely scale anymore.
As for the leaderboards, which are filled with players using the OP Burn to dominate, Rocksteady has decided to keep everything fair and release a new leaderboard:
“All the entries on the current leaderboard will exist in perpetuity and will be a permanent record of all your achievements.
We want to applaud you all for both your dedication on getting this high in the Mastery Levels (and also breaking the game).”
Rocksteady also emphasised that players’ unlocked Mastery Levels, Finite Crisis rank, and all their gear and squad levels remain unaffected. Rofckstead will use their Discord to give weekly updates about the game from here on out as they prepare for its first official season.
