For those who don’t know, or maybe weren’t even alive yet. The Legend of Dragoon is and was a PlayStation RPG first released in 1999 to not much critical success but a cult-like level of love and adoration.
Unfortunately for the game, it was released towards the end of the PlayStations lifecycle, which meant one of the machine’s most visually impressive games with real-time elements and fully voiced cutscenes never managed to break out of its cult status to the mainstream.
Over the years, Sony has kept The Legend of Dragoon available, and a recent port for the PlayStation 4 and 5 even added a few features like quick save.
However, fans of the game have been begging for a remake or even just a sequel for years, seemingly falling on deaf ears and causing a group of modders to take matters into their own hands.

Called Severed Chains, modders have created an unofficial PC port of The Legend of Dragoon, which will be playable in the next few months with 4K resolution and 60 fps added to the 25-year-old game.
According to the team, Severed Chains is a reverse-engineered PC port of Legend of Dragoon and a complete reconstruction of its game engine.
They could drastically improve the game performance because instead of using other software to mimic the PlayStation hardware, they’ve created something standalone, resulting in a game that can run faster and leaner and has breakout modding capabilities.
Severed Chains also features instant loading, the option to skip FMVs, max item slots, unlimited save slots, tweaked controller input, mouse support in menus, higher quality audio, and many more minor fixes to address issues the original had on launch.
There are also a bunch of optional enhancements for players to toggle on and off, like text scrolling speed, automating specific regular commands, and debug options.
