Carry1st Signs a Deal with Sony

Taking another giant leap towards being the actual carry for the African gaming community. South Africa’s very own Carry1st partnered with Sony to help it spread its brand further and deeper into the African continent.

In the past, Carry1st was more known for scaling other companies’ mobile games into African markets. With their expertise in payment platforms, Carry1st can connect a local economy’s payment methods to in-game stores, like COD, Free Fire and Clash of Clans, granting everyone access to whatever sort of in-game currency they’re after.

Here in South Africa, Carry1st was able to partner up with Riot Games and bring the local Valorant scene their very own servers. Granting them low ping and a more competitive playing field.

While the new partnership with Sony is still in the “exploratory stages”, according to Carry1st CEO Cordel Robbin-Coker, what Carry1st has been able to do in the past by scaling big brands into our local African communities makes us at NAG excited to see what we exciting things will come. Perhaps a more market-friendly cost to games and PlayStation subscriptions, or even hardware costs that might be easier on the wallet. Without more information, we really can just let our imaginations run wild here.

In an interview with CNBC, Robbin-Coker mentioned that they plan to help Sony expand its reach into Africa by including “broader go-to-market strategies, [and] digital payments“.

Sony had planned to invest 10 million dollars into Africa this year. As for how much of that has gone into Carry1st is not known, but here’s hoping that the investment not only pays off for our local boys but for our local gaming community too.
