Back in 2022, Blizzard made waves when the company announced it was hard at work on a yet-to-be-revealed survival game, the first new property from the studio since Overwatch in 2016.
However, thanks to the recent and significant round of layoffs at Microsoft, the unannounced game has been given the sack alongside 1,900 employees.
After a long and tedious battle, Microsoft finally acquired Activision Blizzard in October for $68.7 billion. Unfortunately, the results of that battle are now starting to show themselves in the worst possible way, with 1,900 employees, primarily those working for Activision Blizzard, losing their livelihoods.
“Today’s actions affect multiple teams within Blizzard, including development teams, shared service organizations and corporate functions. As part of this focus, Blizzard is ending development on its survival game project and will be shifting some of the people working on it to one of several promising new projects Blizzard has in the early stages of development.”
While very few details, including a name, were revealed for the survival game, it was set to be a significant project for Blizzard, which basically only focuses on its already established brands like Diablo, Warcraft, Overwatch, and StarCraft.
