Over the years, those who tune into the annual Awesome Games Done Quick, an event aimed at showcasing various speedrunners tackling games, have seen several ridiculous stunts.
From gamers racing through games at breakneck speeds while blindfolded to having their hands tied behind their backs and even gamers teaming up and sharing a single controller.
But as always, there seems to be no limit to how far, outrageous and impressive this event will be, and what happened this year during Awesome Games Done Quick 2024 will be a tough act to follow.
The showstopping act in question was an adorable Shiba Inu named Peanut Butter, and his owner is speedrunner JSR, who teamed up to speedrun an NES classic live – and boy, oh boy, it was impressive.
Peanut Butter and JSR ran Gyromite, a 1985 Nintendo platformer that launched with the NES. This impressive feat was achieved using a custom-made dog-friendly controller with large coloured buttons.
JSR guided Peanut Butter with hand signals, but let’s be honest, he was nothing but a plus one here, and all the credit goes to Peanut Butter for pressing the right buttons exactly when needed.
And if you didn’t already feel bad about your lack of speedrunning skills, Peanut Butter beat the game in only 26 minutes and 24 seconds, with only a single game over.
Even more impressive was JSR explaining that Peanut Butter’s skills result from only a year’s worth of practice, learning to press and hold buttons with accuracy.
And before any of you gamers blessed with hands and thumbs try to put down this achievement, Peanut Butter’s unshakeable concentration and skill in being able to hold down buttons for upwards of 10 seconds with nothing but paws is crazy impressive, no matter how you try to spin it.
“He is the bestest dog that I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling my dog, and I’m so proud of him.
He was my pandemic dog, and now he’s my best friend.”
