It’s always amusing for me when modders have more passion and drive to help a game reach its full potential than the developers behind it, which is precisely what is currently happening with Starfield.
Ahead of Bethesda finally bringing mod support to Starfield sometime in the year ahead, modders have started to work on getting some of the most requested features to the game – mechs that can be piloted.
Now, for those of you who didn’t go into debt buying Starfield last year or aren’t subscribed to Xbox Game Pass (I don’t blame you), scatted throughout the game are towering mechs that have been little more than decoration because in a game all about piloting things through space, Bethesda seemingly made very little things actually pilotable.

However, this is set to change thanks to modders doing the lord’s work. Soon. A modder named Korodic is heading this ambitious project. It aims to make mechs pilotable and fully functional, meaning they can traverse terrain and engage in combat as any good mech should.
Korodic showed off the potential of a mod like his in a video uploaded to YouTube that showcased the early stages of development and the potential of this mod to bring new gameplay possibilities to the game.
It’s worth noting that the mod is still actively being worked on because Korodic has faced several technical challenges along the way, including a lack of direct support or documentation from Bethesda.
As of writing this, Bethesda has not officially confirmed the inclusion of mechs in any upcoming updates or DLCs. This makes a mod like this invaluable to keeping the game alive despite its rapidly dwindling player base and a universe of criticism vaster than the game itself.
But now I want to know what you think about the inclusion of mods like this. Will it be enough to save Starfield? Let me know in the comments.
