Netflix Teases Us With a Little Arcane

It’s been just over two years since we were blessed with the legendary animated Season Arcane, and while we knew a second season would definitely be on its way, it sure has been quite some time since we have seen anything about it.

That was until a short teaser was dropped over the end-of-year break.

In the trailer, a soft lullaby twinkles alongside heavy, gruff breathing. We catch a glimpse of Singed keeping an eye on a pocket watch as what seems to be a transfusion of his own blood is being made. The squelches and slurps invade your ears as the teaser ends with a zoomed-out shot of a beast hanging in the shadows.

It’s quite clear that the beast is Warwick, a monster of the alleys of Zaun that has been transformed across multiple experiments. Augmented by machinery and chambers that pump his veins full of alchemic rage, Warwick has a lust for blood that he’ll always chase down.

Without much more to go on, many fans have been throwing a few speculations around. One of the most popular is that Warwick is actually Vander, the adoptive father of Vi and Jinx from Arcane.

Warwick’s lore does state that he was once a “gangster” who had since “put down his blade for a better life”, and although it is not known exactly how this gangster fell into the experimental hands of Singed, it was Singed’s ultimate goal with Warwick to reveal his true nature: “a deadly beast hidden within a good man”. A lot of these traits could point towards Vander, even though he wasn’t necessarily painted as a gangster in the Arcane series.

Vander also, supposedly sacrificed himself to save Vi during a fight with Silco, while being temporarily transformed into a beast after he took Shimmer, an experimental techmaturgical created by Singed. The fan theory suggests that Vander did not actually die during that battle, and if it’s true, it will certainly add an interesting emotional twist to the second season.

Whether you think Warwick is actually Vi and Jinx’s father or not, we’ll only get the real answers in November this year when the second season of Arcane is set to launch. Hopefully, we’ll be getting a little more than this thirty-second clip to keep our palettes whet until then.
