As of now, the redemption arc for Cyberpunk 2077 is 100% complete. Over the last few years, CD Projekt has taken the game from the disaster that it was at launch and turned it into something extraordinary.
And to tie everything up for good and move past the sins of the past, CD Projekt has finally settled the class action lawsuit filed against it in 2020 by investors.
If you play Cyberpunk 2077 in 2023, it’s easy to forget how bad the game was three years ago. It was so bad that Sony booted the entire game from the PlayStation store for over six months, something that they never even considered doing for Gollum, a game that seems impossibly bad.
The state of Cyberpunk 2077 on launch also led to lawsuits being filed against CD Projekt, focusing on the fact that the studio had made false or misleading statements about Cyberpunk 2077 being properly playable on then-current gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
At the time, Rosen Law Firm released a statement saying that CD Projekt failed to disclose that Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs and that, as a result, CD Projekt would suffer reputational and pecuniary harm that would in term cause financial damage to investors. And so, a class action lawsuit was filed.

Then, a year later, in 2021, there were four open lawsuits against the studio, which were rolled into one, which resulted in a $1.85 million out-of-court settlement deal to make the whole thing go away – something that needed to be approved by the courts before it could go through. Now, three years after the launch and two years after the settlement was put forward, the settlement has been approved.
In a regulatory announcement by CD Projekt, it was announced that the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California had issued an order regarding final approval of the corresponding settlement, which ends the legal proceedings related to the U.S. class action lawsuit against the Company and other defendants.
Even though $1.85 million sounds like, and is, a massive chunk of money, CD Projekt got off-light here. CD Projekt reported net profits of over $51 million in its most recent financial quarter alone, and Cyberpunk 2077 sales have now surpassed 25 million units.
But what’s done is done, and now, for the first time since the game was released, the slate is clean. Cyberpunk 2077 players can also get excited because CD Projekt has announced a surprise update heading to the age and will add several gameplay elements, including a fully functional metro system that will carry players around Night City.
