If there is one legacy that Ubisoft has created for itself, it’s to never, under any circumstance, release a Beyond Good and Evil game. It’s what they’re most well known for, and for the most part, it’s something they’ve been able to stick religiously to for years, if not decades, at this point.
Sometimes, to mess with gamers’ heads and hearts and to prove their commitment to disappointment, they’ll release a small trailer or drop a hint about a potential Beyond Good and Evil game, but that’s as far as it ever goes – until now.
A few months ago, ESRB leaked that Ubisoft was working on a new version of Beyond Good and Evil when achievement-tracking sites caught wind of Xbox cheevos for a Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. But deep down, everyone knew that Ubisoft would never waver from their anti-Beyond Good and Evil stance, and we’d never see this come to life.
However, in a twist that even Stephen King couldn’t write, yesterday there was a sudden and surprising store listing for none other than the rumoured Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition and not only that, but some players were even able to download and play it – before it disappeared for good.

But this is the internet, and try as Ubisoft might to scrub all traces of the boo-boo from the internet, the internet tried harder, and 30 minutes of gameplay ended up on YouTube before swiftly being erased by a Ubisoft copyright claim.
There were also screenshots of the Xbox listing before it was taken down that shows the game was promised to come with 4K, 60 fps with improved graphics, controls, and audio, along with brand-new autosave and cross-save features as well as a way to discover more about Jade’s past in a new treasure hunt throughout Hillys – which could very well be a tie into the ill-fated Beyond Good and Evil 2 game.
And now, 24 hours later, Ubisoft has taken to Xitter to admit the failure of its entire company strategy and announce a 20th anniversary remaster of Beyond Good and Evil. We know; we can’t believe it either.
But don’t get too excited; according to Ubisoft, more info will be available in early 2024, so there is still plenty of time for Ubisoft to write this wrong and for Beyond Good and Evil to just disappear, much like Ubisoft has done with the game until now.
Here’s the Tweet in question:
Well, looks like the cat’s out of the bag, dagnammit. Happy 20th anniversary to Beyond Good & Evil! While we cannot wait to show you more about this special edition, more news to come in early 2024! pic.twitter.com/cNxHGTnmdU
