Is it just me, or do the walls of Twi-I mean X slowly feel like they’re falling? Ubisoft, alongside a few other big names like IBM, Apple, Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros, Sony and Comcast, has halted all advertising on the platform.
While Ubisoft confirmed that they would be pulling their ads from the platform to both PCGamer and Axios, they didn’t state their exact reasons.
It’s speculated that Ubisoft, as well as the other names that have “paused” their advertising campaigns, have done so due to an antisemitic post that was supported by Elon Musk himself, who has since denied that he is at all antisemitic. Media Matters, a non-profit media watchdog, also released an article stating that X was positioning advertisements next to Nazi content. IBM and Apple have said that they are investigating the matter, while CEO of X, Linda Yaccarino, has called the findings “misleading and manipulated”, and X has since filed a lawsuit against Media Matters. Media Matters responded by saying it “stands behind its reporting and looks forward to winning in court.”
Either way, with major brands and Ubisoft possibly being the first game development company to make this move, do we see other companies following suit?
Are you still using X as one of your main social media platforms? If not, let us know what you’re on these days so that we can send you cute little messages and gifs.
