December is just around the corner; Mariah Carey has already made her salary for the next twelve months, and let’s face it, most of us don’t have much, if any, disposable money, just eating a hole through our pockets.
Especially after you’ve accounted for buying the upcoming NAG: Annual. But why this is important is because the Steam Deck OLED is out, and LCD users might feel left out. But they don’t need to be, not entirely.
SteamOS’ 3.5.5 update, available on a Steam Deck near you now, introduces many of the OLED model’s software tweaks and changes for owners of the original handheld.
This means that users will have access to new and shiny display options after updating their devices. For example, the Steam Deck will now default to the sRGB colour range for its display and introduce HDR and VRR settings for external monitors.
The update fixes a whole bunch of historical bugs and offers a revamped version of the FPS/screen refresh rate slider, which now combines separate settings into one unified tool for picking an arbitrary frame rate between 30 and 60 fps.
Overall, none of these changes will quite get your Steam Deck up to the same level as the OLED version, but an update is an update, and that’s precisely what this is.
