Never underestimate a team of gamers in the mood to play a game they can’t easily come by. After a hugely successful port of the Naughty Dog PlayStation 2 classic, Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy to PC, the team has done it again.
OpenGoal has now set its aim on Jak 2. While it’s technically still in beta, it is already playable from start to finish through OpenGoal. These ports are created using OpenGoal’s unique programming language and exist because of the team’s love for gaming and to aid in video game reservation.
And if you’re unfamiliar with OpenGoal’s work and ask yourself how this differs from an emulator, let us explain. The OpenGoal team reverse-engineered both Jak games to run natively on PC, avoiding the need to emulate a PlayStation 2 in any way, shape or form.
Also, the OpenGoal project is entirely legal, as it was built from the bottom up without using even a slither of either Sony or Naughty Dog tech. Gamers will also need an ISO image from their copy of the Jak games to use with OpenGoal’s launcher.
But now we want to hear from you. Did you play the Jak games growing up, and if so, will you be trying out the PC ports? Let us know in the comments.
