Sometime in April of this year (if you can even remember that far back) was the last time that gamers got to hear anything new about the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – and all that news focused on was the fact that the planned 2023 release had been pushed to February 2, 2024.
However, with that date creeping ever closer, Rocksteady has started to get the hype machine into first gear and has released a new video that showcases a deeper look at the game’s story, the traversal mechanics and even the game’s version of Metropolis.
Now, if you had asked me a few weeks ago if I had any hope that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League would be good, I would have replied with an immediate no, but now, after watching the latest video, I feel like maybe, just maybe, it could surprise us all.
The Metropolis built for the game is twice the size of Gotham City in Rocksteady’s previous game, Batman: Arkham Knight and the loveable group of anti-heroes will be swinging, flying, or super sprinting across the vast city. Alongside each character having their own form of traversal, they will also each come with a unique playstyle.
This video is the first in a series, and the only thing it didn’t manage to touch on was the planned live service features. However, if fans find themselves hopeful that this omission means the live service features are being dialled back or removed entirely – they’re out of luck.
Press releases that arrived alongside the video confirmed that the game will still be a looter-shooter on launch with a battle pass with free and paid tiers and plenty of loot and cosmetics to earn, including different outfits, weapons and colour swatches.
But live service complaints aside, to the surprise of many, including myself, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League looks pretty fun, and if it’s able to not get dragged too far down into microtransaction hell, it might just be a good game after all.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available now for preorder on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
