If the whispers in the dark corners of the internet are to be believed, Sony is looking into adding gaze tracking and other PlayStation VR2 features to non-VR games – and there is even a patent to back this up.
Sony released the PlayStation VR2 headset in February, and now it seems like Sony is gearing up for a rather significant update for the headset.
The patent reveals that Sony wants to implement gaze tracking and other PlayStation VR2 features into non-VR games to improve performance while gaming with the headset.
The patent details a system that focuses on and renders the area players are looking at in a higher resolution. This process is already supported in native PlayStation VR2 games like Horizon: Call of the Mountain. Still, the patent notes that it could be applied in non-VR games to improve frame rates at a higher resolution.
The patent is a promising sign of PlayStation VR2’s future as it would mean gamers could enjoy their favourite first-party and third-party games on PlayStation 5 with improved performance.
