PlayStation to Remove Native X Integration

In the “news-we-were-expecting” category this morning, PlayStation said they would remove Twitter, or X, integration from the 13th of November.

As of November 13, 2023, integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles. This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).

Microsoft already made the change earlier this year when X’s new API version and price plans kicked in, forcing large companies to pay a lot more than they would have previously to use said APIs. Enterprise plans are rumoured to start at around R770,000 per month.

There are workarounds that will allow users to post their achievements and screenshots to X; the easiest method will mean using the PlayStation App on your phone to download whichever screenshot or video you’d like to post from your console and then posting it natively through your X mobile app.

With X slowly but surely removing all of Twitter’s old ways, there’s no longer a doubt out there that X is trying to become something completely new. Musk has been seen testing live streaming on the platform, and we’ve all heard the rumours of X being “the be-all and end-all” application that just does everything. However, isolation may not be the best way to get there.
