Thanks to an incredibly successful open beta event, the most popular game on Steam right now is a First Person Shooter that isn’t even available yet – The Finals.
As I type this, hundreds of thousands of gamers are currently trying out The Finals, an upcoming game from ex-Battlefield devs that’s now in open beta.
The beta in question is so incredibly popular that the Finals is now the most wishlisted game on Steam, throwing other games like Hades 2, Ark 2, and Hollow Knight: Silksong off the top spot.
The Finals is no stranger to the top wishlisted game list, as it’s been hovering in the top 20 for almost a year now. Since the Open Beta, over 200,000 new players have jumped into the game, helping it take that top spot.
Currently, the beta reviews are pretty stellar, with many praising the game’s slick gunplay and skill-based movement. The beta has three maps with both time-of-day variants and map modifiers randomly assigned at the start of the game.
Each map also includes “Game Show Events” that add a level of chaos to the matches by adding random modifiers like low gravity, meteor showers, and rising lava.
From what we know, The Finals will be free-to-play with the usual battle passes on launch. While the studio has said the game is set for a 2023 release, it’s safe to assume we will likely only receive it early in 2024.
