Thanks to a new update from Starbreeze, the studio behind Payday 3, we now understand why there has been such a delay in the highly anticipated first patch for the game. However, the news isn’t great.
According to Starbreeze, the first major patch is still very much on the way. It has been sent off for console certification, a process required by Sony and Microsoft to ensure game updates aren’t going to cause any unintended grief.
These certifications are one of the reasons why the patch was delayed from early October. However, Starbeeze says these delays are actually for the best.
“The reason it has taken so long to get this first patch ready is very long and complicated, but the short version is that we discovered critical errors with our update pipeline shortly after the game released.
There was a significant risk to player progression being wiped if we didn’t address this and ensure a solid test environment.”
And if you’re playing the game on PC and don’t understand why console certifications should impact your patch, that’s by design. Starbreeze stated that before the game was even released, they had committed to players to keep parity between all the various platforms, which is why PC players will need to watch until the patch can be rolled out everywhere.
Thanks for your comment. We understand that, Aaron. We will need to lead by proof and become more transparent. We will do our best to win back your trust. https://t.co/Q0r3ecxeqP

Starbreeze is also looking at tweaking the game outside of this patch and is currently considering how to tweak Payday 3’s progression system in response to player feedback.
“Once we can consistently deliver patches, the team will also deliver on our plans for more content for the game.
Expect to see free content updates for the game before the end of the year; we’ll share more information on what these will be when we get there.”
