It’s become a cherished tradition in the overclocking world that with every new Intel CPU generation, the ROG team collaborates to unleash their latest and most exceptional APEX motherboard, powered by Intel’s latest Core CPU, liquid helium, and a wealth of technical expertise. Together, they relentlessly push the boundaries of physics and engineering, consistently setting new records in frequency and performance.
For the unveiling of Intel’s 14th Gen Core, after an exhausting week of gruelling work hours and late-night efforts, the seasoned ROG overclocking team, composed of Shamino, Massman, Bing, and Elmor, succeeded in shattering the world CPU frequency record, achieving an astonishing 9043.92MHz frequency. This remarkable accomplishment surpasses the prior record by 35MHz, a feat previously held by team member and Elmor Labs engineer Jon “Elmor” Sandstrom.

Intel’s 14th Gen Core i9-14900K marks a historic milestone as the highest-clocked CPU in Intel’s history, reaching an impressive 6GHz on specific cores with just an AIO or air cooler.
As a testament to Intel’s remarkable engineering prowess and advancements in the process node, the 14th Gen Core CPUs boast an average 200MHz frequency boost over their 13th Gen predecessors. Although a 35MHz increase in clock frequency may seem marginal, overclocking at the very limits of silicon’s physical capabilities demands hours, if not days, of meticulous preparation, a dedicated team, and specialized hardware and Windows utilities.
The motherboard of choice in this monumental achievement was the Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Apex Encore, which, much like its APEX predecessors, demonstrated exceptional resilience to temperatures plunging as low as -230 degrees Celsius, even under current and voltage levels that would spell disaster for most other motherboards.
