PS5 Cloud Streaming Set to Roll Out This Month

Sony has finally moved its cloud streaming from beta testing to the real world. In a blog post on the PlayStation site, they said that they will be rolling out Cloud streaming in stages throughout October, starting with Japan.

Cloud streaming on your PS5 means you won’t have to clog up your hard drive with every single game out there, which is especially helpful considering PlayStation will be using their massive PlayStation Plus catalogue for the games that can be streamed.

Starting with a few heavy hitters like Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman: Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West.

You will also be able to stream game trials from the catalogue, so if you decide not to purchase the game after you’ve trialled it, no biggie; it’s not like you had to wait for it to download anyway.

Titles that you have already purchased, like Resident Evil 4, will also be available for cloud streaming.

Initially, only a few games from the catalogue will be available, but this will change over time.

PlayStation has also emphasised that streaming your games doesn’t mean losing any of the features or quality you’re used to from PS5.

Gamers can stream up to 4K resolution, at 60 fps in HDR and SDR. They will still have access to in-game purchases and any downloaded content that they have access to, and you can still take screenshots and capture up to three minutes of recorded gameplay.

The rollout will begin on the 17th of October, with Japan, then Europe on the 23rd and finally North America on the 30th. As usual, Africa has been left off the map, but it’s safe to assume that we will be getting it, at least shortly after the rollout in North America has been completed.

Cloud streaming will only be available to those subscribed to the Premium PS Plus plan, the most expensive of the three. PlayStation also claims a minimum internet speed of 38mbps for 4K streaming; however, a 5mbps line will suffice for lower resolutions.
