Last year, it was announced that there were four upcoming Silent Hill projects in the works, which consist of Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2, a prequel game called Silent Hill F, No Code’s Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill: Ascension. In this interactive streaming series, viewers can vote to decide how parts of the story turn out.
Now we’re seeing the first of those projects in Silent Hill: Ascension, set to begin on the 31st of October – which means Halloween plans are now super easy.
However, there has been some pushback to the first project to be released, most of which surrounds the fact that the game’s mobile version mentions in-app purchases.
All this outcry has led Jacob Navok, CEO of Genvid and executive producer of Silent Hill: Ascension, to come out and address it, clarifying that all episodes will be able to be watched for free, regardless of platform and compares the in-app purchase to a Twitch subscription saying that the purchases will be similar to Twitch channel perks and customisation of the community viewing experience.
“We’ll have puzzles you can do each day, chat emotes and stickers to unlock, etc. If people want to turn off chat, they can do that too. Then it just becomes like Netflix.”
Silent Hill: Ascension will begin with a live premiere on the 31st of October 31. People who prefer to watch the VOD version will still be able to vote, with Jacob Navok saying:
“You do not need to be there live. There are some things that are only available live, but I set a rule early in production that anything that changes story outcome needs to be able to be participated in asynchronously.”
