Fortnite Set to Add Age Ratings to its Creative Content

To try and build “a metaverse that is fun and safe for everyone,” Fortnite will introduce age ratings to its creative experiences.

Epic has teamed up with the IARC (International Age Rating Coalition), which works with both PEGI and ESRB, to provide their ratings.

Any new islands created in the game must fill out an IARC questionnaire before their island is submitted to Fornite moderators. Based on your answers, you will automatically receive an age rating from the IARC and a region-specific age rating, i.e. something from PEGI or ESRB.

They say that the region-specific ratings may differ, as each region has different laws and ideas on what they deem suitable for what age.

For any islands that have already been created, the questionnaire will be available from the 16th of October, and any creators that don’t fill them out by the deadline on the 14th of November will have their island delisted.

You can check out the full blog post on the partnership here.

While we blatantly ignored the ratings on movies as kids back in my day, now that I am older and, ok, just older, I can see the benefits of having these ratings on all kinds of content, especially content that can be generated by anyone out there.

Do you think the IARC ratings will make an impact on the creative content in Fortnite? Let us know in the comments.
