Wandering Sword, a Martial Arts RPG for the Nostalgic Gamer

I know why you clicked on this article. You clicked on it for the very same reason I’m writing it.

Martial Arts and nostalgic pixel art.

Wandering Sword was released on Steam on the 15th of September, and during its first two weeks on the platform, it managed to claim the “Very Positive” review status with over 6,000 reviews.

The game is a Chinese martial arts RPG with an engaging story, where your choices matter, a “vast” open world to explore, complete RPG mechanics, such as character upgrades and equipment, and tactical combat.

With most of the reviews clocking in at over 30 hours of gameplay, it does feel like there’s a good game here with a lot of meat to chew through. Some are even hitting over 100 hours, indicating a solid replayability factor to the game as well.

In its first two weeks, the developers have already released a patch that addressed a few issues some users had with UI scaling on a smaller screen, such as the Steam Deck, and added in some quality-of-life features, like auto-battling for the easier, more grindy battles.

For only R230, the game seems like an absolute bargain. With comparisons to legendary titles like Chrono Trigger or the more recent Octopath Traveller, Wandering Sword might be just the indie title you’ve been waiting for this year.
