Just Two Weeks After The Open Beta, Sega Scraps Hyenas

Two weeks after wrapping up the open beta, Sega has officially canned Creative Assembly’s zero-gravity heist shooter, Hyenas.

News of the cancellation comes after the company announced structural reforms in which Sega cited rapid inflation leading towards decreased profitability.

Alongside the cancellation of Hyenas, Sega has also pulled the plug on other unannounced titles under development. As of now, it’s unknown if those games also fell under Creative Assembly or other studios.

While this cancellation is rather last minute, it isn’t exactly out of left field, as earlier in the year, Sega noted that Hyenas was proving to be a challenging title and would need a lot more work to improve its quality.

Following the cancellation, Creative Assembly released a statement to Twitter to announce that it would be making an unknown number of its staff redundant.

The statement reads:

“We have made the incredibly difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process in some areas of our UK operations, alongside ending development of Hyenas. This may, unfortunately, result in job losses.

We fully understand that this has a significant impact on our people whether they are directly affected or not—which we are truly sorry for.”
